CONVERGENCE, DYNAMIC
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Visual Voice Gallery is delighted to present Convergence, a dyad of complementary exhibitions which fuse visual art and neuroscience. The showcased artworks are the collaborative efforts of a group of fine art students from Concordia University and neuroscience students from McGill University. Over the past five months, the students have learned about each other's research through lectures and studio/lab visits, leading to in-depth dialogues about the brain, the mind, perception, emotion, and illusion.
Based on the neuroscientists' cutting-edge research, the artists developed innovative and reflexive art pieces that subvert, critique, and play with the scientific concepts. The resulting artworks connect scientific data to the human experience by moving from the objective to the subjective, from the general to the personal, and from the abstract to the emotional.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS
The Convergence project is the brainchild of neuroscientist Cristian Zaelzer, founder and director of the Convergence Initiative, which aims to make neuroscience research more accessible to the general public. The Convergence Initiative partnered with Andrée Lessard from the Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience Program (BRaIN), part of McGill University's Health Centre (MUHC), and pk Langshaw, Professor and Chair of the Department of Design and Computational Arts at Concordia University.

THE CONVERGENCE DYAD
The Convergence exhibition is presented in two parts: Convergence, Material focuses on the tangible object. Artworks include sculptural pieces, photographs, painting, drawing, and typography. Convergence, Dynamic centers on interactive, ephemeral art, and includes video, kinetic sculpture, and performance.
